We might have a problem!.....if the cam chain slips...then the engine failure will be instantaneous.
This sounds not any different at all then cam rockerarm failure! If the engine gets a lack of oil to the top of the cylinder head....like mine, then the camshaft literally eats throught the rocker arms!
This creates excessive valve clearance and the engine fails in exactly the same matter as you said.
Do this: Look at the camshaft for a rough scrathcy appearance on the lobes.#2 look at the rocker arms for grooving.....get back to me on it.
